A public servant transferred between mainland France and Réunion can have their relocation costs covered. For a transfer at their own request, they must have spent 4 years in their previous post, and the allowance is reduced by 20%.
Civil servants and contract staff are eligible when their transfer involves a move. Coverage is excluded in these cases:
| Type of transfer | Time in the previous post | Allowance |
|---|---|---|
| At your request | 4 years | reduced by 20% (unfavourable) |
| At your request, in some cases, including a first transfer within the corps | 3 years | reduced by 20% (unfavourable) |
| Compulsory, after the job was abolished or changed | none | increased by 20% (favourable) |
The amount of the flat-rate allowance depends on the distance between the two homes and on the volume of furniture or the weight of luggage.
These rules are presented on the civil service page on relocation costs, updated on 20 August 2025.
After 4 years in your post, a transfer to Réunion at your request entitles you to coverage of your costs, reduced by 20%. A compulsory transfer after your job is abolished entitles you to it with no minimum length, increased by 20%. Prepare the octroi de mer exemption for your belongings at the same time.
